Below you'll find things that I'm looking to buy, or have purchased already, and some information about my experience doing so.
Dell U1574 Kit:
**UPDATE**
I guess Dell recognized how irate I was on the 11th, so they shipped it two day.
I have the kit (U1576) now (1/13/06) and it's the same as the one
pictured below, but mine came with two SCSI cables. Not sure if that was
by design, or a mistake. I won't have the time to install it till next
week at the earliest, but for now I'm happy.
**UPDATE**
Well, when I ordered it, they said it would ship out on 1/4/06, and it would
take 3-5 business days to get here. As of today (1/11/06) it hasn't
arrived, so I decided to call them. I got someone on the phone who I could
barely understand, and was a "low talker" which made it worse. He told me
there there was some kind of a Shipping or Supply problem so it wasn't shipped
out. I wanted to ask why I never got a notice, or why they didn't just
keep the order in their system and ship it when they were available, but because
we could barely understand each other I decided it wasn't worth my time.
He placed the order again for me, and this time he gave me the order number over
the phone (Last time I was told I'd receive it in an e-mail, which I never got).
Oh, and they changed the part number. It's now U1576.
Hopefully it really is the same kit. I'll let you know when I receive it.
**UPDATE**
I just (12/29/05) ordered this kit from Dell. You can contact the Dell
Spare Parts Department at 800-357-3355. The part was $51.00 and about $62
with shipping. Not cheap, but worth it if you want to add a Tape drive to
a PowerEdge 2800.
I'm looking to buy a Dell U1574 Kit like the one shown below. It's a kit that allows you to place a 5.25" drive into the Peripheral Bay of a Dell PowerEdge 2800 Server. This kit has the Rails, screws, Power Cord, and SCSI cable needed to put a generic drive into this server. These parts come with the drive if you buy it from dell specifically for the server, but unfortunately even dell doesn't have the Kit as a Spare Part. If you have this kit, or even just the parts (like from a bad drive/server) please contact me. Thanks.
